Keep Off The Pounds! Veer Away From The Road To Obesity.

Among the various health concerns being addressed worldwide, obesity is one of those which are steadily increasing statistically.  It’s SO BIG that a reality based show on weight loss became a huge hit. It even spun off a wide range of merchandise and endorsements to boot.  You don’t have to wait until you’re obese to start working out and shedding off pounds.  Some of us don’t even realize that we are trekking a path towards obesity with the eating habits and lifestyle that we maintain.  If we're not careful we might end up with more serious health conditions than just expanding waistlines.

Here are some tune-up guides to keep us on the right track to a fit and healthy body.

Check It!  Don’t be afraid of the weighing scale or the tape measure.  These are tools that can help you determine your body mass index or BMI.  You can be classified as underweight, healthy, overweight, or obese.   If you fall in any category other than healthy, it means you have to tune-up your body.  Once you hit large clothing sizes it’s time to check your BMI (body mass index).  Double or triple X sizes means you’re in real BIG trouble.

Set it!  If your BMI indicates that you’re overweight or on the borderline of being overweight then it’s time to make some lifestyle changes.  Set a target weight loss and time frame for yourself.  This will enable you to monitor changes in your body and check the effectiveness of your weight loss regimen.

Watch it!  Be conscious of your diet or food intake.  People who don’t watch what they eat may wake up one day with their waistlines achieving planetary proportions.  Low fat and high-fiber diets are proven to be effective in weight loss programs.  Start by cutting down your food portions and working on eliminating the junk.  You really wouldn’t want to look like that huge blob of jell-o you so love to eat!

Move it! Your body fat will neither go away on its own nor can be willed away by anybody. So put on your sweats and get a move on it.  Choose an exercise routine or a work-out program that you can maintain on a regular basis.  We’re not talking about a supermodel figure here, we just want you to hit the healthy mark in your BMI.  Your diet and exercise program should compliment each other for an effective work-out.

Keep it!  Commit yourself to keeping your body healthy and stick to your fitness regimen. Your routine may change as you lose weight and require different forms of exercises but make sure you always have a regimen or routine stick to.

Restaurants, fast foods, TV dinners, home entertainment systems and other modern gadgets give us comfort and convenience.  However, they are also culprits in promoting a sedentary lifestyle.  Let us not make convenience a habit at the expense of a healthy body.  Remember to take everything in moderation. And keep off the pounds!

The increasing statistics of obesity world wide is now considered alarming in any sense and in fact, the WHO already declared it as a pandemic problem. It’s for the same reason why there have been so many useless weight loss exercises that are even promoted by notable personalities. And one worse thing that goes along with it is the advent of sneaky healthy foods being disguised with nicer sounding names.

The truth is that it’s difficult to know what’s good for everyone that is trying to lose weight. Everything is compromised and that includes the manufacturer of weight loss supplements who may be concealing some nasty surprises in a healthy sounding products. Adding to the inevitable is the fine lines that suppose to give you a warning to some surprising food offenders under the confusing label of healthy alternatives. But the sad thing is… most become dependent to the promises of what you called sudden weight loss.

And if you are not consulting an expert into guiding you in this complicated and manipulated world of weight loss programs then you might encounter some unexpected circumstances. Many did not know that sudden loss of weight may give you the opposite of what you want to achieve. Remember that you did not gain the extra flab overnight and you should do the same in getting rid of it. If not then your fall back would be much worse if you are not getting the attention from experts.

Although not everything is a sham, you just need to be guided with the right information and be skeptical if it offers sudden results. Another thing is to make sure that you are not mixing natural health supplements with other medications. Seek advice from your doctor first if it is safe when mixed with other medicines especially if it contains Ephedrine.

Obesity is a never ending and growing problem not only in an industrialized nation, in fact, it already reaches to a critical pandemic level according to WHO. While weight loss programs here and there offer enticing regimen that will help you in removing that extra pounds around your waist; food companies is another one, who are so alluring that they can convince you to buy healthy food. And if you are not paying attention on the fine prints then most likely you will fall trap with a nicer sound names that simply isn’t healthy.

They’re not only seducing you on how to lose weight but they’re also taking that opportunity of vulnerability if you aren’t smart enough to do the research. The most common mistake that anyone would have is the notion that you can achieve a sudden weight loss overnight. Just keep in mind that you didn’t pack all those weight overnight either. And if you want a fast way to lose weight then avoid starving yourself for it is not the answer. A lot of overwhelming scientific evidence proves that it simply doesn’t work.

Most rapid weight loss programs only give you short term benefits then you are going to quickly gain it back as quickly as you shred it. The truth is that, the fastest way to lose weight is to realistically assess your present situation and set some achievable fitness and weight loss goals. And the key to a successful rapid weight loss in a healthy way is to start in a slow and gradual process. It may be switching from an unhealthy diet to a healthy one or start your fitness program gradually to build your conditioning. It may not be a strenuous exercise.

Many believe that more is better. Not knowing that your body may not be able to handle the extra stress and overwhelm your body with the workload then that would cause injuries in the end.

Sudden Weight Loss in Children

Any change in our physical appearance might suggest something else. Take for example, sudden weight loss in children. Some are easy to identify its root cause such as under- or malnutrition, hyperactivity, depression and disease infected like dengue hemorrhagic fever. Other reasons are not visible or hard to determine such as caused by genetics and fast metabolic processes. For whatever reasons, this phenomenon should not be taken for granted.

Some can be addressed immediately particularly the behavioral ones. Sudden weight loss can be associated with being picky or choosy among foods. Full-time nannies and parents know about this. The usual intervention applied is to make the food delectable without compromising its nutritional content. Others make use of positive reinforcement; wherein they give rewards for children who will not leave leftovers. Another method is to talk to them; maybe they are already experiencing something within their bodies.

Furthermore, we must monitor what they consume. It is a common knowledge that certain foods and herbs are purgative in nature such as papaya, sweet potato, mangoes, etc. This could be a contributing factor for their weight change. Also certain foods might give them parasite problems so we must ensure that food handling, preparation and storage is clean.

In any case, forced starvation of children could also lead to sudden weight loss in children.

Now let us talk about diseases that can cause sudden weight loss. First is dengue fever. This mosquito-caused disease may lead to excessive blood loss. In return, certain body parts diminish in size because there is insufficient supply of oxygen and nutrients. Second is cancer. Experts say that weight loss can be secondary symptom particularly in ovarian, pancreatic and hematologic cancers. Third is gastrointestinal ailments including peptic ulcer.

To remedy such problem is early detection. If you feel something different in your child, don't hesitate to ask for a pediatrician's professional advice.

Sudden Weight Loss in Cats

Unexplained sudden weight loss among cats? Obviously, it is not an overnight phenomenon among our pets. They could be probably experiencing health problems for quite some time. The usual suspects are: anorexia or appetite loss, which could lead to hepatic lipidosis; microorganisms – infected diseases such as coccidiosis, cryptosporidiosis, and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV); kidney problems such as glomerulonephritis, diabetes, and stone problems; dietary problems; and finally external parasites such as mites and fleas.

The basic solution to address this issue is to provide them the love and care they need. To be specific, we need to know the right food to be consumed; when to take them to bath (although, it is really challenging to groom our feline pets); how to give them exercise and train them and finally when to take them to the veterinarian. In short, like us we need to set a quality time with them so we can fully understand and immediately notice if there are changes in their physical state.

Maybe some will ask how I will know if there is something wrong with them despite of providing all these things. Honestly, we don’t expect them to talk about their issues but rather they manifest or communicate with us through their behaviors. Sometimes, they will purr around from time to time, feel very heavy and lazy, always scratching, etc. Or maybe, you notice that their wastes are not normal etc.

You are fortunate if they are already healthy especially if you bought them from a reliable pet store or entrusted by someone who really know the pet. However, just a reminder, taking care of a pet cat is like having a car. We need to review how to troubleshoot basic problems and provide at least first aid for them.

Sudden Weight Loss in Pregnant Women

Sudden weight loss during pregnancy, which can be healthy only if you are an obese woman into the family way, can most likely be caused by a woman’s changing hormones and are mostly manifested through constant feeling of nausea and frequent vomiting. Some other pregnant women may also suddenly lose weight because of the unusual shift in their appetite; sometimes they would want to eat a single type of food the whole day or some other time they wouldn’t want to eat at all.

If this condition persists, a woman simply won’t gain enough weight several months into her pregnancy, which could either mean that her baby is not developing properly or is developing full well at the expense of the mother, feeding from the nutrients from the mother’s body. To be on the safe side, and for your peace of mind, it is best to check with her medical practitioner and seek advice on what to do best. Sudden weight loss while pregnant may mean your baby’s development is being compromised and it will do you well, of course, to be sure that your baby is getting all the nutrients and minerals he needed necessary for his proper formation and brain development, and that he will have a normal birth rate too.

If you are suddenly losing weight during pregnancy, your medical practitioner may inquire about a possible recent illness, your rest or sleeping patterns, or he might delve into your work and stress history. He might also investigate on cases of dehydration and may ask you to rest easy on any diet restrictions.

Chances are the causes of your vomiting and nausea (or what we call the proverbial morning sickness) will go away in a few weeks, allowing you to gain back the pound you lose, but in case of excessive vomiting to the point of dehydration, your doctor might prescribed a pill to keep it at bay. You are best to veer away from too much tasty and oily food as these can trigger your ill feelings, too. Try eating small and frequent meals and snack on crackers to keep the nausea and the ugly weight loss away.
