Risky Weight Loss

Risky Weight Loss

Just because you’re getting into shape doesn’t mean you’re getting healthy. Sad but true, most of the weight loss practices today are nothing more than dangerous and life threatening. While they won’t kill you in the short term like swallowing tape worms, they are life threatening in the long term and over a long period of time can cause major health problems such as cancer, diabetes, arthritis, asthma and high blood pressure to name a few.

Just like there is a right and wrong way to change a car’s tire, so also there is a right way as well as a wrong way to lose weight. Contrary to popular belief, the right way does not involve starving the body. Yes these practices might work in the beginning and they can achieve the desired effects, but in the long term these practices destroy the body.

For instance, the uric acid in meat eats away at the synovial fluid in the joints. Synovial fluid is a lubricant that prevents bone from rubbing against bone much the same way mechanics oil bolts to prevent friction. When the synovial fluid is eaten away by the uric acid (which is a byproduct of meat), arthritis sets in and can cause major damage.

Another factor is the liver and the work it is put through concerning the digestion and processing of protein. The liver is the organ that the stomach calls on to process protein. The daily protein intake for a normal healthy person is supposed to be between 10 and 15 percent. However, most low carb diets increase this up to 50 percent and more. Needless to say, if the amount of protein allotted is being more than tripled, the liver, after a while will be overworked and disease can set in, disease such as cancer of the liver and cancer of the colon.

So remember, just because you’re losing weight does not mean you are getting healthy. Generally, most low carbohydrate diets are nothing more than trading a greater evil for a lesser evil (or vice versa).
