
Sudden weight loss can be described as a situation wherein a person loses weight without the intention to do it. It is considered a critical condition if a person lose about 5 percent of his or her weight in a month's time. A health professional should be immediately consulted if the weight loss is about 10 percent or more of the weight in a period of six months to one year.
Rapid or unintentional weight loss can mean problems with the health conditions. There could be various medical conditions that may have caused the changes in the body. These unintentional weight loss can be because of the following:

Sometimes weight loss is caused by eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa. Anorexia is a state of mind when a person has an extreme fear of gaining weight; hence food intake is restricted. On the other hand, bulimia is a condition when a person indulge to binge eating then later on feels guilty about it; thus forces one's self to throw up.
